Heritage Photography

David Bunting is an architectural photographer who runs his own business, Images NI, in Belfast. He captures buildings in all stages, whether abandoned, in disrepair, in the process of repair or being saved.

For the best part of a decade, David has volunteered his time and skills to many organisations across Northern Ireland to record built heritage. His eye for detail and the ability to document buildings and their context is invaluable to further the general public’s understanding and awareness of the built environment. Recording buildings through photography is so important as buildings are extremely vulnerable, and if they fall into disrepair and are not offered protection, they can easily be demolished. Without the photographs, important aspects of our history would be lost. David has recorded such buildings beautifully, and thanks to his commitment and passion, we have photographic evidence for posterity.

David has volunteered thousands of hours to record the work of communities, building owners and organisations on their journey to bring buildings back from the brink. Each month David photographs buildings for the RSUA’s Perspective magazine free of charge, allowing more awareness and stories to be shared about our historic buildings. The detail in his work allows us all to learn about the traditional crafts and workmanship which have gone into these buildings; which can be used as a learning tool for those studying these crafts.

The legacy of David’s work lies in the beautiful record he has built up of hundreds of unique historic buildings which will allow them to have a form of preservation for the future, regardless what it may bring.
